 | Lot #84 AUTOGRAPHS OF FAMOUS PEOPLE 1818 Da Ponte, Lorenzo (1749-1838), an Italian, later American opera librettist, poet and Roman Catholic priest. He wrote the libretti for 28 operas by 11 composers, including three of Mozart's most celebrated operas, Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro and Cosi Fan Tutte. In 1828, at the age of 79, Lorenzo Da Ponte became a naturalized U.S. citizen. In 1833, at the age of 84, he founded the New York Opera Company. A four-page quarto, letter written in Italian, dated 4 November, 1818, Philadelphia, with departure pmk, charged 12 1/2, sent to Mr. N.
