Lot #159
GERMAN EAST AFRICA Indian Expeditionary Force Issue
1916 The field post offices of the I.E.F. were established for both the troops and to provide postal service to civilians in the occupied areas of German East Africa. Soldiers on active service had free frank privileges but civilian mail required Indian stamps overprinted "I.E.F." A Prepaid "Frankiert mit 7 1/2 H" Tanga entire envelope, cancelled 22.6.16 (two weeks before the British captured the town) addressed locally and additionally franked with 1/2a I.E.F. adhesive, cancelled "F.P.O. No.304" in 1917(!). It is possible that the cover was mislaid by the Germans in the Tanga post office and eventually placed in the mail by the I.E.F. authorities, some minor flaws, signed GPSY
