 | Lot #4547 SAUDI ARABIA - Hejaz Military Mail 1925 (20 Mar) picture postcard sent by a sailor on the "Schiaffino", via its on board post office to a colleague at the headquarters of the naval base at Spezia, Italy, v.f., unusual "forces abroad" usage in Jeddah. (In 1924, the Wahhabis under Ibn Saud (the Sultan of Nejd) invaded Hejaz and in the following year took control of the country, forcing the abdication of Amir Hussein. Due to internal unrest, the Italian government grew concerned about the safety of its nationals in Hejaz and sent the destroyer "Schiaffino" to Jeddah to "show the flag".
