1898 (12 Oct) cover to Algeria, franked with vertical pair of 2 Annas Typeset, tied by oval "Smith, Mackenzie & Co." handstamp, with British East Africa 2 1/2a Queen Victoria added alongside and tied by Mombasa cds, with Zanzibar, Suez and Alger transits, "La Maison Caree, Alger" (14 Nov) arrival, redirected to France, with Lyon (17 Nov) arrival pmk, filing fold and minor cover faults away from the stamps, fine and rare (Smith Mackenzie Mombasa office was established in 1871 and the British Postmaster General awarded them a contract for a service to convey mails between Aden and Zanzibar, linking the East African coast to the growing network services)
