 | Lot #1153 RUSSIA 1849-1934 Romanovs and Entourage, collection of 83 covers or cards on pages, each accompanied by a detailed description regarding original and destination, sender's and letter (if enclosed) details, etc. The story begins with a mourning envelope sent by Empress Alexandra Feodorovna (1798-1860), wife of Emperor Nicholas I, registered cover containing a secret report sent from Baku to Emperor Nicholas I, 1876 wrapper sent from England to Emperor Alexander II, 1890 registered cover to Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich on his yacht "Tamara" (care of Russian Consulate in Colombo, Ceylon), registered cover sent by the future Emperor Nicholas II to his cousin Prince George of Greece in Athens (inscribed "from the heir apparent Tsarevitch"), autograph covers sent by Grand Duke George Alexandrovich from Abas-Tuman to Gatchino, plus countless others, including letters to Imperial tutors, coverfront from the office of the Postal Director in St. Petersburg sent in 1907 to Empress Maria Feodorovna in Biarritz, France, incoming mail from Norway, Switzerland, Greece, England, etc. A remarkable insight into the Imperial Romanovs, many of the items illustrated in Rossica and other publications, truly an uncommon opportunity to obtain a ready-made collection of letters and cards, each outstanding on its own merits

 | Lot #1178 RUSSIA 1945 collection of 13 original photographs (mostly 12 1/2 x 17 1/2 cm) from Soviet press-archives, each with official handstamp and signature, some marked "Secret", fine and incredibly rare holding, illustrating the May 8th 1945 official surrender of the armed forces of Nazi Germany, in a former army officers' canteen, in the Berlin suburb of Karlshorst. Soviet Marshal Georgy Zhukov, who had led the 1st Belorussian Front into Berlin in April 1945 attended on behalf of the Supreme High Command of the Soviet Red Army, with Marshal Arthur Tedder of the Royal Air Force, representing the Allied Expeditionary Force. Three representatives of OKW, Col. Gen. Hans Jurgen Stumpf (Air Force), Field Marshall Wilhelm Keitel (Chief of General Staff) and Admiral Hans-Georg von Friedeburg (Navy), had arrived earlier in the day from Flensburg and were met by the Allied representatives
