There is an old-world collection of Mixed Frankings and Redirected Mail, formed by a European gentleman, with an extraordinary selection of combination usages.  | Lot #798 BRITISH COMMONWEALTH NEW HEBRIDES Local Issues 1898 (4 May) registered cover from Porta Vila to France, franked with 2p "Australasian New Hebrides Company Limited" imperforate horizontal pair, tied by "1897" (year-date error) cds, sent via Sydney where pair of 2 1/2p New South Wales adhesives was added to pay for further transmission to Madame Lois Hirsch in Marseille, France, with Sydney (May 26) and Marseille (5 July,1898) arrival pmks on back. A fine combination franking from New Hebrides, rare. (Founded in 1887, the Australasian New Hebrides Company provided shipping and mail services on steamers running between Australia and the New Hebrides, at intervals of about three weeks. This provided a convenient mail service to almost sixty islands in the grouping, including Tonga. This service proved to be unprofitable and the company closed down in 1899 and entered into a contract with the Australian Post Office)
