United States 1902-08 Issue
1902 50c black, die essay on india, die sunk on card (89x103mm), almost complete engraving (shortened shading lines in leaf ornaments at upper right and left), small piece of bottom right corner of India paper torn off, still v.f., one of only two Scott listed and the only recorded example of this nearly complete state. This and the essay offered in the previous lot are the only two known die essays for the 50c 1902 Issue. Each is unique (ex-Cheshire collection, Siegel 2004 sale, $3,250 hammer)
