We are pleased to present our June 18-19, 2024 auction, featuring Part One of the Alfred F. Kugel collection of Postal History of the world, being sold on behalf of the American Philatelic Society. The first of many to follow, this sale is only a sample of the vast amount of material yet to be presented. We begin with United States Dollar values on cover, U.S. States Postal Agencies in the Far East, U.S. International Registration Exchange Labels, U.S. Intervention in Mexico and Registered Mail from U.S. Possessions. There is a splendid selection of the International Intervention in China during the Boxer Rebellion, extensive showing of German Colonies in China and the Pacific, with dozens of rare and unusual items, including unique Tientsin handstamps on 2m and 3m Reichspost. In addition, there are selections of World War I British Occupation of Baghdad, Jordan, Salonika, Mafia Island, Saudi Arabia, plus elusive covers from the Austrian, British, Ottoman, Russian, Spanish and Portuguese Empires.

 | Lot #3646 POLAND Polish Consular Post in Odessa 1920 (1 Feb) registered cover to Warszawa, franked with seven different "ODESA" overprints, including red and black 10f and 50, 20f, 25f and 1M, each canceled by red ODESA handstamp, Registry box at right, departure name and number filled in by hand, backstamped on arrival in Warszawa (13.II.120), v.f. (a Polish consulate functioned at the Black Sea between January 1919 and the beginning of February 1920, with almost a 5-month-long break, during the first Bolshevik occupation of Odessa. The consulate functioned in Odessa until March, 3, 1920 when it was evacuated along with a large group of Polish citizens because of the inevitability of the Bolshevik takeover of the city). Only 50 of each of the red overprints were issued (Mi.1-5, €12,060 as used off cover)

Michail Nikolayevitch Dosse, Field Post Office in Gomel, with "Czytane w Konsulacie Polskim w Odesie Komendant Etapu" (read in the Polish Consulate in Odessa, Commander-in-chief) censor handstamp on reverse, blue crayon "Spr.Woyskiw" (Military Matter) endorsement, red Registry box, with "Odessa" and number filled in by hand, fine and incredibly rare military cover from Odessa, undoubtedly the only known sent outside of Poland, signed Mikulski, with his 1992 notations, ex-Rachmanow and Mikulski collections
