We are pleased to present our June 18-19, 2024 auction, featuring Part One of the Alfred F. Kugel collection of Postal History of the world, being sold on behalf of the American Philatelic Society. The first of many to follow, this sale is only a sample of the vast amount of material yet to be presented. We begin with United States Dollar values on cover, U.S. States Postal Agencies in the Far East, U.S. International Registration Exchange Labels, U.S. Intervention in Mexico and Registered Mail from U.S. Possessions. There is a splendid selection of the International Intervention in China during the Boxer Rebellion, extensive showing of German Colonies in China and the Pacific, with dozens of rare and unusual items, including unique Tientsin handstamps on 2m and 3m Reichspost. In addition, there are selections of World War I British Occupation of Baghdad, Jordan, Salonika, Mafia Island, Saudi Arabia, plus elusive covers from the Austrian, British, Ottoman, Russian, Spanish and Portuguese Empires.

 | Lot #3615 BRITISH COMMONWEALTH PALESTINE Military Mail 1917 (22 Dec) cover with APO SZ 44, sent from Jerusalem to Breda, Netherlands, violet triangular censor cachet and large "S" in circle, backflap missing, fine and early example of civilian mail sent free via the Army Post Office to Europe (Since Palestine was a battleground for nearly a year, there was virtually no civilian mail. Once the front moved north however, a postal service was established and for a three-month period starting in December 1917, both military and civilian mail was handled free of charge at the APOs)

 | Lot #3617 BRITISH COMMONWEALTH PALESTINE Military Mail 1918 (21 Sep) "O.A.S." cover to Mandalay, Burma, with "F.P.O. No.31" Registry label, franked on back with I.E.F. 2a magenta, sent through Indian FPO 31 at Kantara in the Egyptian Sinai, manuscript endorsement "From Palestine written 10-9-18 on which day Allenby broke thro' the Turkish line". Presumably sent by a solder without FPO and forwarded to Kantara for processing, Postage was free, but 2 annas stamp required to pay for registry fee, with Mandalay (26 Oct) arrival, boxed censor handstamp on front, some toning, signed Nakri. A fine cover, with elusive FPO registry label
