Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World

The May 7-8, 2024 Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World will take place at our Teaneck, N.J. Galleries, via CherrystoneLIVE. There are 1,562 lots, offered in four sessions, beginning with United States, followed by a diverse worldwide holding formed by Dikran Taner. There are solid sections of Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and Italian States, Switzerland, Turkey, as well as British Commonwealth, featuring John Pedneault's postal history of Ireland, extensive Bermuda, British Africa and various individual rarities. In addition, there are selections of China, with Red Revenues, numerous Flight and Zeppelin covers, rare booklets and more. Finally, the last session is highlighted by Large Lots and Collections, with 184 lots ranging from single country albums, specialized holdings, multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact.

 | Lot #844 BRITISH COMMONWEALTH IRELAND 1922 (11 July) cover from Corcaigh to Cork, franked with left diagonal half of 4p gray green, with 5-line Dollard overprint, tied by framed "Learn Irish Tailteann Games August" slogan supported by adjoining departure cds at left, sender's notation in magenta ink: "no 1/2d, 1d, 1 1/2d or 2d stamps available Cork GPO July 11 22", charged "4d" on arrival. The Post Office with no policy in place for bisects noted "Mutilated Stamp" and raised the mandated double the deficiency with the British 4p Postage Due at bottom, filing fold away from the stamps, with 1997 MacDonnell Whyte certificate.
