The May 7-8, 2024 Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World will take place at our Teaneck, N.J. Galleries, via CherrystoneLIVE. There are 1,562 lots, offered in four sessions, beginning with United States, followed by a diverse worldwide holding formed by Dikran Taner. There are solid sections of Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and Italian States, Switzerland, Turkey, as well as British Commonwealth, featuring John Pedneault's postal history of Ireland, extensive Bermuda, British Africa and various individual rarities. In addition, there are selections of China, with Red Revenues, numerous Flight and Zeppelin covers, rare booklets and more. Finally, the last session is highlighted by Large Lots and Collections, with 184 lots ranging from single country albums, specialized holdings, multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact.

BRITISH COMMONWEALTH IRELAND
1872 cover to Stillorgan, endorsed "Via Brindisi", franked with 1p red (Pl.145), postage left uncanceled en route, tied by London "98" duplex on arrival in England, re-addressed to Dublin and charged 1d in ms (for forwarding within 24 houses), with receipt docketing "30 July 72" "Whampoa" in pencil (Whampoa island, 15 miles south of Canton), sealed on back with a negative impression of a Straits Settlements coin ("One/Cent/India/Straits/1862") red wax seal, Black Rock and Stillorgan pmks, fine cover, carried by a British warship, or military rate (via Brindisi) from Whampoa Island (no postal markings are known) (The Treaty of Nanking gave merchants access to the port cities on China's coast. British Navy sent warships to Yangtze and Pearl rivers to protect merchants from pirates)
