Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World

The May 7-8, 2024 Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World will take place at our Teaneck, N.J. Galleries, via CherrystoneLIVE. There are 1,562 lots, offered in four sessions, beginning with United States, followed by a diverse worldwide holding formed by Dikran Taner. There are solid sections of Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and Italian States, Switzerland, Turkey, as well as British Commonwealth, featuring John Pedneault's postal history of Ireland, extensive Bermuda, British Africa and various individual rarities. In addition, there are selections of China, with Red Revenues, numerous Flight and Zeppelin covers, rare booklets and more. Finally, the last session is highlighted by Large Lots and Collections, with 184 lots ranging from single country albums, specialized holdings, multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact.

Also included another cover from Gyantse to New York, this one addressed to Theodore Newman (only a handful of Europeans were in Gyantse at that time)

1944 cover from Kathmandu, franked on back with 8p magenta, sent to Pharijong, where Tibetan franking was added and tied by native cds, with arrival pmk, minor faults, otherwise fine (an Indo-Nepal Postal agreement of 1937, permitted the use of Nepalese stamps in place of Indian stamps on regular mail from Nepal to anywhere in the British India Postal System. Eight Pice postage was required, but the Nepalese Post Office was seldom used, as the British India service was faster and more efficient)
