Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World

The May 7-8, 2024 Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World will take place at our Teaneck, N.J. Galleries, via CherrystoneLIVE. There are 1,562 lots, offered in four sessions, beginning with United States, followed by a diverse worldwide holding formed by Dikran Taner. There are solid sections of Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and Italian States, Switzerland, Turkey, as well as British Commonwealth, featuring John Pedneault's postal history of Ireland, extensive Bermuda, British Africa and various individual rarities. In addition, there are selections of China, with Red Revenues, numerous Flight and Zeppelin covers, rare booklets and more. Finally, the last session is highlighted by Large Lots and Collections, with 184 lots ranging from single country albums, specialized holdings, multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact.

1872 1/2 Sen brown, Cherry blossoms native paper (JSCA 9), two horizontal pairs, canceled by three strikes of double circular type Yokohama (7.6.11 or June 11, 1874) on cover addressed to Tokyo, with additional departure pmk repeated below, with partial arrival cancel on back, overall toning and cover missing backflap, with 2023 Florian Eichhorn certificate (the addressee, Lyman, was a foreign advisor to the Japanese government, as chief geologist and mining engineer. Cherry blossoms used on inland mail are very unusual and appear almost exclusively on correspondence by resident foreigners)
