The May 7-8, 2024 Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World will take place at our Teaneck, N.J. Galleries, via CherrystoneLIVE. There are 1,562 lots, offered in four sessions, beginning with United States, followed by a diverse worldwide holding formed by Dikran Taner. There are solid sections of Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and Italian States, Switzerland, Turkey, as well as British Commonwealth, featuring John Pedneault's postal history of Ireland, extensive Bermuda, British Africa and various individual rarities. In addition, there are selections of China, with Red Revenues, numerous Flight and Zeppelin covers, rare booklets and more. Finally, the last session is highlighted by Large Lots and Collections, with 184 lots ranging from single country albums, specialized holdings, multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact.

 | Lot #487 FRENCH COLONIES French Indochina 1861 (22 Feb) FL datelined "Saigon", addressed to Admiral Page, "La Division Expeditionnaire", with French Naval Expeditionary Forces cachet, sent by and signed by "Le Admiral en Chef L.Charner" (Leonard Charner (1797-1869) was an Admiral of the French Navy and commander of French naval forces in Asia from May 1860 to September 1861, during the Second Opium War and the Cochinchina campaign. He was a significant participant in the establishment of French Indochina. Theogene Francois Page (1807-1867) was a French naval officer, also Commissioner of Tahiti from 1852, Governor of Tourane (Da Nang) in Vietnam from 1859 to 1860, then governor of Cochinchina in Saigon from 1860-1861).
