Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World

The May 7-8, 2024 Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World will take place at our Teaneck, N.J. Galleries, via CherrystoneLIVE. There are 1,562 lots, offered in four sessions, beginning with United States, followed by a diverse worldwide holding formed by Dikran Taner. There are solid sections of Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and Italian States, Switzerland, Turkey, as well as British Commonwealth, featuring John Pedneault's postal history of Ireland, extensive Bermuda, British Africa and various individual rarities. In addition, there are selections of China, with Red Revenues, numerous Flight and Zeppelin covers, rare booklets and more. Finally, the last session is highlighted by Large Lots and Collections, with 184 lots ranging from single country albums, specialized holdings, multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact.

CHINA Prisoner of War Mail
1918 (1 Sep) cover endorsed "Service des Prisonniers de Guerre", framed bilingual handstamp alongside, addressed to the Red Cross in Holland, with oval "Internierungslager Haitien" Camp cachet, with Peking departure and Gravenhage arrival pmks on back, "Opened by Censor" label (applied in Mount Pleasant, London), fine and scarce cover from the Haitien Camp (near Peking) (under pressure of the allies, China broke its diplomatic relations with Germany and Austria on 14th March, 1917. The Dutch envoy represented the German interests in China from then on and War was declared on August 14, 1917. China interned members of the East-Asiatic marine detachment in various camps, including "Haitien", "Wan-chou-Tse" and others in Hailun and Tsitsikar, Manchuria)
