WORLD COINS Great Britain
1640 hammered silver Shilling of King Charles the First, with the star mint mark to both sides indicating that this coin was struck in the year 1640 or 1641 in London before Parliament seized control of the Tower mint. The obverse features the sixth "Briot's'" bust facing left. The Roman numerals "XII" behind Charles I's head indicate the coin's value: twelve pence or one Shilling.
