Cherrystone Auctions March 12-13, 2024 Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World will take place at our Teaneck, N.J. Galleries and over the internet via CherrystoneLIVE. The sale contains 1,316 lots and will be offered in four sessions, beginning with United States, with a specialized collection of Postal History of the South, ex-Dabney. Worldwide sections include an exceptional collection of Bavaria, with stamps and covers, offered for the first time at auction. There are solid sections of France, Italy, British Commonwealth, all with many individual rarities. Also featured is a collection of Sweden, with exceptional First Issues. There are 200 Large Lots and Collections, ranging from single country albums, specialized holdings and featuring a comprehensive collection of Indian Feudatory States (estimated to realize $100,000), multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact. 1943 10c-50c, set of six, l.h. or n.h., fresh, fine-v.f., signed Brun, Diena, etc., with his 1992 certificate, also additional 1981 Sorani certificate for the rare 15c green (position 42), l.h., of which only 50 were printed. This is one of the rarest Italian Social Republic and local issues of war-time Italy (A submarine base was established at Bordeaux by the Italian Regia Marina Italiana in 1940. From this base, Italian submarines took part in the Battle of the Atlantic as part of the Axis campaign against the Allies. After the Italian Armistice in September 1943, the base was seized by the Germans and some of the Italian personnel remained. During this period, the Italian postage stamps on hand were overprinted to show loyalty to Mussolini)
