Cherrystone Auctions March 12-13, 2024 Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World will take place at our Teaneck, N.J. Galleries and over the internet via CherrystoneLIVE. The sale contains 1,316 lots and will be offered in four sessions, beginning with United States, with a specialized collection of Postal History of the South, ex-Dabney. Worldwide sections include an exceptional collection of Bavaria, with stamps and covers, offered for the first time at auction. There are solid sections of France, Italy, British Commonwealth, all with many individual rarities. Also featured is a collection of Sweden, with exceptional First Issues. There are 200 Large Lots and Collections, ranging from single country albums, specialized holdings and featuring a comprehensive collection of Indian Feudatory States (estimated to realize $100,000), multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact. 1919 handstamped framed 13mm monogram on Russian Offices in China, mostly erased, but still visible "5 DOLLARS" surcharge (Scott 68) on 5r dark blue, green & pane blue, vertically laid paper (basic stamp Russia Scott 71), large part original gum, h.r., with red guarantee handstamp, also signed Romeko, with 2024 Raritan certificate. A fascinating item, which might have occurred for a variety of reasons, including shortage of high value stamps, etc.

1919 10r red, orange yellow, with framed 14mm monogram handstamp, basic stamp (Russia Scott 109d) with yellow background inverted, right sheet margin vertical pair with "V" control markings, canceled "Yerevan 2.5.1920", v.f., with 2024 Raritan certificate. An incredible recent discovery and truly a tremendous rarity of Armenian philately (a single 10r with inverted background was sold in our 2011 "Inverted Centers of the World" sale, ex-Sagar, $10,500 hammer)
