Welcome to our January 9-10 Sale of U.S. and Worldwide Stamps and Postal History. The sale contains 1,508 lots and will be offered in four sessions, beginning with United States and U.S. Possessions. Worldwide sections include France, Germany, Italian Area, with many individual rarities. British Commonwealth, with a further selection of G.R.I. errors and varieties. There are solid selections from rest of the world, with additional items from the Carl A. Kilgas and Martin Stempien estates, plus nearly 200 Large Lots and Collections, ranging from single country albums, specialized holdings and featuring a comprehensive collection of British Commonwealth (estimated to realize $100,000), multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact.

 | Lot #48 United States 1870-71 Issue 1871 (Aug) cover from Boston to Rev. Bissel in Ahmednuggur, India, paying 44c with pair of 10c brown & single 24c, red "London Paid 28 Aug. 71" transit, also "36/2" in crayon (indicating British credit) on front, oval "Sea Post Office" and red "Ahmednuggur Camp PO." arrival pmks on back, also with some inked computations (which could indicate why the Reverend saved them; he may have used them for record keeping in lieu of scarce paper. When he returned to the U.S., he brought his records with him. Rev. Lemuel Bissell was a missionary in India from 1851 to 1891. The envelopes to Rev.
