BENES, Eduard (1884-1948), Czechoslovak statesman; forced into exile by Hitler after the Nazi occupation of Sudetenland; president of the Czechoslovak government in exile, with headquarters in England (1939-45). ALS dated 29 May, 1918, in French on imprinted "Conseil National des Pays Tcheques" stationery, 4 pages, octavo, Paris. Benes writes: "Mon Colonel", regarding the Czech prisoners, including those in Russia, fine and very rare ALS, with full English translation
