Welcome to our January 9-10 Sale of U.S. and Worldwide Stamps and Postal History. The sale contains 1,508 lots and will be offered in four sessions, beginning with United States and U.S. Possessions. Worldwide sections include France, Germany, Italian Area, with many individual rarities. British Commonwealth, with a further selection of G.R.I. errors and varieties. There are solid selections from rest of the world, with additional items from the Carl A. Kilgas and Martin Stempien estates, plus nearly 200 Large Lots and Collections, ranging from single country albums, specialized holdings and featuring a comprehensive collection of British Commonwealth (estimated to realize $100,000), multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact.

WESTERN UKRAINE Romanian Occupation of Pokutia
1919 overprinted "C.M.T. Roman Pocutia" and surcharged with new values on Austrian stamps 1.20k on 1kr, 1.20k on 2kr, 1.20k on 3k, 4k on 4kr, and 4k on 10kr, the complete set of five unissued values, v.f., signed "Ukr.Phil.Verb.e.v.", top value with 2023 Royal certificate. These surcharges were prepared, but never issued as Romania ceded this part of Western Ukraine to the Polish Army. This is one of the only two (!) known sets of this issue, possibly ex-King Karol of Romania collection. The other set (ex-Mikulski) was sold in our 2006 auction (hammer $16,500)
