Welcome to our January 9-10 Sale of U.S. and Worldwide Stamps and Postal History. The sale contains 1,508 lots and will be offered in four sessions, beginning with United States and U.S. Possessions. Worldwide sections include France, Germany, Italian Area, with many individual rarities. British Commonwealth, with a further selection of G.R.I. errors and varieties. BENES, Eduard (1884-1948), Czechoslovak statesman; forced into exile by Hitler after the Nazi occupation of Sudetenland; president of the Czechoslovak government in exile, with headquarters in England (1939-45). ALS dated 29 May, 1918, in French on imprinted "Conseil National des Pays Tcheques" stationery, 4 pages, octavo, Paris. Benes writes: "Mon Colonel", regarding the Czech prisoners, including those in Russia, fine and very rare ALS, with full English translation

GILBERT, William and SULLIVAN, Arthur. (The Victorian-era theatrical partnership of the dramatist W. S. Gilbert (1836-1911) and the composer Arthur Sullivan (1842-1900). The two men collaborated on 14 comic operas between 1871 and 1896, of which H.M.S. Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado are among the best known).
