Our November 7-8, 2023 Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World will take place at our Teaneck, N.J. Galleries and over the internet via CherrystoneLIVE and StampAuctionNetwork (SAN). The 1,211 lots sale begins with United States and U.S. Possessions. Worldwide sections include a solid collection of Germany and German Colonies, with many individual rarities. British Commonwealth features British Guiana "Cotton Reels" with an unused 12c black, making its first appearance on the market since the 1935 Hind sale; G.R.I. errors and varieties, strong Bushire, specialized Malaysian States and much more. There are strong selections from various European Countries and rest of the world, with additional items from the Carl A. Kilgas and Martin Stempien estates. The auction concludes with 250 Large Lots and Collections, ranging from single country albums, specialized collections, multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact. POLAND
1880 (12 May) FL from Antoine Berezovski to Ladislas Mickiewicz (son of Adam Mickiewicz) in Paris. Antoine Berezovski, a Polish patriot, was sentenced to penal servitude for life for attempting to assassinate Tsar Alexander II, on June 6, 1867, on the occasion of his visit to Paris. Berezovski, who was 18 at the time, fired into a carriage in which the Tsar, the Emperor Napoleon and his two sons were driving in the Bois de Boulogne. The Pole was tried, condemned and shipped to New Caledonia.
