Our November 7-8, 2023 Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World will take place at our Teaneck, N.J. Galleries and over the internet via CherrystoneLIVE and StampAuctionNetwork (SAN). The 1,211 lots sale begins with United States and U.S. Possessions. Worldwide sections include a solid collection of Germany and German Colonies, with many individual rarities. British Commonwealth features British Guiana "Cotton Reels" with an unused 12c black, making its first appearance on the market since the 1935 Hind sale; G.R.I. errors and varieties, strong Bushire, specialized Malaysian States and much more. There are strong selections from various European Countries and rest of the world, with additional items from the Carl A. Kilgas and Martin Stempien estates. The auction concludes with 250 Large Lots and Collections, ranging from single country albums, specialized collections, multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact. BRITISH COMMONWEALTH TOGO
1914 First Setting, 10pf carmine, overprint inverted, unused without gum, v.f., signed Peter Holcombe, Herbert Bloch. Only top half of the sheet (50 stamps) were printed, of which 28 are recorded, only 4 (!) unused, two of them was a pair from the Bute collection (since separated), one of which is the stamp offered here (The Bute collection was mostly housed in the underground vaults in London, which were flooded during the blitz in 1940.
