Our November 7-8, 2023 Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World will take place at our Teaneck, N.J. Galleries and over the internet via CherrystoneLIVE and StampAuctionNetwork (SAN). The 1,211 lots sale begins with United States and U.S. Possessions. Worldwide sections include a solid collection of Germany and German Colonies, with many individual rarities. British Commonwealth features British Guiana "Cotton Reels" with an unused 12c black, making its first appearance on the market since the 1935 Hind sale; G.R.I. errors and varieties, strong Bushire, specialized Malaysian States and much more. There are strong selections from various European Countries and rest of the world, with additional items from the Carl A. Kilgas and Martin Stempien estates. The auction concludes with 250 Large Lots and Collections, ranging from single country albums, specialized collections, multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact. United States Stampless covers
1857 (Feb) FL from New Orleans to Nantes, with red "New York AM PKT", with oval "GB 40c" accountancy mark (Salles 3036), endorsed "Per Steamer Alps", oval forwarding cachet, with French entry cds, fine. This accountancy mark was in use only three months for American packet mail. "Alps", a Cunard line steamship substituted on this one occasion for the American Collins liner that should have sailed; cover still treated as American mail and charged accordingly
