Our November 7-8, 2023 Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World will take place at our Teaneck, N.J. Galleries and over the internet via CherrystoneLIVE and StampAuctionNetwork (SAN). The 1,211 lots sale begins with United States and U.S. Possessions. Worldwide sections include a solid collection of Germany and German Colonies, with many individual rarities. British Commonwealth features British Guiana "Cotton Reels" with an unused 12c black, making its first appearance on the market since the 1935 Hind sale; G.R.I. errors and varieties, strong Bushire, specialized Malaysian States and much more. There are strong selections from various European Countries and rest of the world, with additional items from the Carl A. Kilgas and Martin Stempien estates. The auction concludes with 250 Large Lots and Collections, ranging from single country albums, specialized collections, multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact.  | Lot #29 United States 1914-17 Issues 1917 1c green, "War Stamp" private overprint, three covers; one in combination with 2c carmine (463) on local Los Angeles, CA cover and others in combination with 1c stamps (single and double rate usages) on "The Southwest Museum" corner card covers (cover faults), also a 1920 cover from Knoxville, Tenn., with 2c carmine with serif overprint (462), fine and interesting group (These overprinted stamps were printed by Charles S. Thompson who was at the time curator of the Southwest Museum in Los Angeles. It is reported that he only printed 1,000 of these stamps in three sizes of sans-serif type)  | Price Realized $325.00 |
