Our September 12-13, 2023 Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World will take place at our Teaneck, N.J. Galleries and over the internet via CherrystoneLIVE. There are 1,500 lots in the sale, which begins with United States and U.S. Possessions. In the Worldwide section we are pleased to offer Great Britain and British Commonwealth, European Countries and the rest of the world, with exceptional China, including Postal History and additional lots from the Carl A. Kilgas collection. There are further selections from the estate of Dr.Martin Stempien, a specialized collection of Greece and Samos, formed by Dr.Frederick Rogers, and a selection of reference material from Sergio Sismondo's estate, with many fascinating offerings. The auction concludes with nearly 250 Large Lots and Collections, ranging from single country albums, specialized collections, multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact.

1901 5m Yacht, right sheet margin single, used in combination with 20pf on large envelope, endorsed "Marinesache", addressed to the S.M.S."Furst Bismarck" in Nagasaki, sealed on reverse with two blue "Kaiserl. Marine Komando des Kreuzergeschwaders" (Cruiser Squadron Command) labels, stamps tied by Tsingtau Kiauchau 20.II.07 departure pmks, cover folded several times, well away from the stamps, fine and extremely rare properly franked cover with 5m Kaiser Yacht (SMS "Furst Bismarck" (Prince Bismarck) was Germany's first armored cruiser, built for the Imperial Navy before the turn of the 20th century. The ship served in China during the Boxer Rebellion as part of the East Asia Squadron until she was relieved in 1909, at which point she returned to Germany)

1914 (7 Nov) military postal card from Bremen to Tsingtau, redirected to Toku, Japan, with "P.C. Prisoner of War" censor and additional markings, including framed "Sending is delayed, no transport available. Recipient is likely to be a prisoner of war. Naval Post Office", sent back to Germany, fine historical card (the same day this card was sent, November 7, 1914, the German and Austrian troops ran out of ammunition and the fortress surrendered to the Japanese. The defenders were transported to Japan, where they spend the rest of the war as POWs)
