Our September 12-13, 2023 Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World will take place at our Teaneck, N.J. Galleries and over the internet via CherrystoneLIVE. There are 1,500 lots in the sale, which begins with United States and U.S. Possessions. In the Worldwide section we are pleased to offer Great Britain and British Commonwealth, European Countries and the rest of the world, with exceptional China, including Postal History and additional lots from the Carl A. Kilgas collection. There are further selections from the estate of Dr.Martin Stempien, a specialized collection of Greece and Samos, formed by Dr.Frederick Rogers, and a selection of reference material from Sergio Sismondo's estate, with many fascinating offerings. The auction concludes with nearly 250 Large Lots and Collections, ranging from single country albums, specialized collections, multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact.

 | Lot #579 BRITISH COMMONWEALTH IRELAND Flight Covers 1919 (14 June) cover from Newfoundland, franked with $1 Trans-Atlantic surcharge, canceled by mute handstamp, with Harbour Grace, June 14 cds alongside, endorsed "Via Aerial Post from H.Grace Handley Page", addressed to Ireland, with oval "Atlantic Aerial Mail Handley Page July 14 1919" datestamp on back, with Fairview Dublin 23 July 19 arrival, some cover faults and toning, otherwise fine. Only 19 covers have been recorded mailed from Harbour Grace, each with the Handley-Page datestamp. This may be the only example with an Irish arrival pmk

Dublin to Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, with City Seals of Dublin in gold foil (also one on back City of New York), right one signed by Lord Mayor of Dublin (Alfred Byrne), top center red City Seal of St. Johns (slightly extended, with minor flaws), signed and endorsed by Mollison, fine cover, with 2019 Roy Hamilton-Bowen certificate ("it is believed that 10 of these covers were originally prepared, but only about 6 examples are known today")

 | Lot #582 BRITISH COMMONWEALTH IRELAND Flight Covers 1934 (15 May) attempted flight, New York to Rome by Pond and Sabelli, 8c air mail stationery cover addressed to New York, with Brooklyn departure and arrival cds, signed by both pilots. Due to engine trouble, the aviators were forced to land in Leact Ui Concubair, Ireland (transit pmk of May 15); after repairs were made they continued on to Rome, v.f.
