1928 (4 Oct) Calcutta to Rangoon, intended for 3rd Dutch Air Mail, cacheted cover franked with 1a George V, with bi-plane "Calcutta-Rangoon" and "By Dutch Airplane" below, plus "3rd Official Mail" and boxed violet "3rd Plane Crashed at Cawnpore Carried by 4th Official Mail Plane H.N.A.O.F.", repeated on back where it is also signed by Stephen H Smith. The cover was intended for the 3rd flight but due to the Cawnpore crash was carried on the 4th flight arriving on 11 October 1928, two hinge remnants on back, v.f., only 87 covers (and 56 cards) carried, ex-Zvi Aloni

1928 (14 May) Doisy & Carol Paris to Hanoi Flight, Calcutta-Rangoon leg, special card franked with 1/2a George V, tied by Calcutta May 14, 1928 cds, with "By Air" cachet overprinted in red "Plane Crashed at Akyab,16th May 1928", French consulate handstamp alongside, "A Postal Memento of Notable Flights Through India / Doisy and Carol" printed and overprinted at left, repeated and signed by Stephen Smith on reverse "Greetings from Calcutta", with French consulate handstamp alongside, v.f. Only 44 cards (and 77 covers) were carried on this flight which was intended to go to Hanoi but the plane crashed and was severely damaged in Akyab, ex-Zvi Aloni

1929 (10 June) flight from Croydon to Tokyo, cover addressed to Stephen Smith in Calcutta, millionaire Van Lear Black's flight in his Fokker "Maryland Free State" from Croydon to Tokyo ended on 10 June 1929 when the plane was damaged landing at Calcutta. The reverse of cover has "J.B. Scholke pilot P-AADZ 'Maryland Free State' Carried from Croydon to Calcutta June 10, 1929", filing fold away from the stamps, fine and rare cover, ex-Zvi Aloni

BRITISH COMMONWEALTH INDIA Flight Covers
1936 (26 Oct) Air Race Paris-Saigon by French pilots Arnoux, Jappy and Micheletti, cover with French and Indian franking, appropriate cachets, with "Voyage Interrompu Le 26-10-1936 a Karachi" handstamp, signed by two pilots who participated in the French Aero Club race from Paris to Saigon (and back), a distance of 14,700 miles (23,700 km), until an undercarriage failure at Karachi forced them to retire with a damaged wing
