Welcome to our December 13-14, 2022, Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World, which will take place at our Teaneck, N.J. Galleries and over the internet via CherrystoneLIVE. This 917 lot sale begins with a session of United States and Possessions, with 19th & 20th Century single rarities, graded items including a nice section of Columbians, Plate Blocks and better back of the book items. In the Worldwide section, there are solid selections of Eastern and Western European classics and semi-modern issues, including Austria, German States, Italian Area, with many rarities. Great Britain and British Commonwealth feature high values from various areas, notably stamps and Postal History of Jordan (1414-1959), with collections offered virtually intact, many offered at auction for the first time. There are further selections of a specialized Kuwait holding, including a mostly complete "Koweit" issue. The auction concludes with over one hundred and thirty Large Lots & Collections, ranging from single country albums, specialized collections and worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact.

BRITISH COMMONWEALTH JORDAN
1408-1959 Postal History of Jordan, collection of hundreds of covers and cards arranged in chronological order on stock cards, many annotated and accompanied by brief descriptions and closely following similar items listed and illustrated in "The Postal History of Jordan 1400-1959" by Abed Najjar (2006). The earliest items are pre-philatelic correspondence from the Venetian period, FL used in 1408 from Aleppo to Amman, three FLs used in 1414-1416 from Damascus to Amman and 1501 FL from Amman to Damascus. The Ottoman period starts with a fine example of the 1899 Posts and Telegraphs negative seal for "Kerek", 20pa stationery card to England (Najjar "probably unique"), 1903 Kerek small datestamps in black and blue, 1916 large dates in black, 1912 Kerek to Medina, 1912 Kerek to Jerusalem, 1914 Maan small datestamp in black, 1910 Damas Mouan to Constantinople, 1912 Maan to Medina, 1917 Amman Salt to Constantinople, Salt to Galata, Aijoun Money orders, Hejaz Railway and Madama Money order. The Jordanian period includes 1920 "used in Palestine", 1921 "Vickers" cover to England, 1921 Salt to Bethlehem, Kerek to Suez, Salt to Amman, England, Jerusalem, Tulkarm, Haifa, plus others. The 1921-59 covers include foreign destinations, some quite rare, registered mail, various combination franking, wide range of overprinted Hejaz (Saudi Arabia) stamps, scarce post office cancels Trans-Jordan covers, incoming mail, errors and varieties on cover, high value frankings, studies of rates, postage due markings and Postage Dues used as Regular Postage, registered mail, with variety of Registry labels and markings, large group of Censored Mail, showing a wide range of markings used in Trans-Jordan during WWII and later, AV2 and OAT mail, Obligatory Tax and Air stamps, Occupied Palestine, with Egyptian and Iraqi mail, "Palestine" overprints, Air Mail and Official mail, plus many others. A fabulous assembly, mostly fine-v.f.
