BRITISH COMMONWEALTH INDIA Flight Covers
1929 (15 Jan) "Kamerad Card" franked with 1/2a George V, tied by Calcutta departure pmk, re-addressed to Baron Von Koenig / Akyab, Burma, with 5.2.29 arrival datestamp, signed by Stephen Smith, with facsimile photograph of the German flier, hinge remnants on hack, fine and rare, only 39 cards (and 2 covers) carried (Friedrich Karl Freiherr Koenig von und zu Warthausen, just 22 years old, took off from Berlin-Tempelhof after making the spontaneous decision to fly to Moscow, intending to break the distance record for light aircraft and win the Hindenburg Trophy. He was travelling in his private Klemm-Daimler L 20 light aircraft, which he has dubbed "Kamerad" ("mate)
