Our May 25-26, 2021 Auction will run live via CherrystoneLIVE. This 1,382 lot sale features United States and Worldwide countries, beginning with a solid selection of U.S. singles, sets, Postal History and Possessions. The Foreign section features a highly specialized collection of French Indochina, with 19th Century military and civilian mail from what is today Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand. This collection was formed by a former French Colonial resident, with an excellent eye for postal history and considered a foremost expert of the subject. From Germany, there are used and unused selections from an-old time collection formed with assistance from Herbert Bloch and the Friedl Expert Committee. Great Britain and British Commonwealth are followed by a collection of Imperial Japan, including the original collection formed in 1875 by Baron Maejima Hisoka, founder of the Japanese Postal System. Italian Offices in China include three rare Pechino and Tientsin items, including unique covers. The Poland selection features Krakow Issue, Locals, Polish Army Corps in Italy, with unique errors and varieties. Russia boasts a collection of 300+ lots of Zemstvo, with many ex-Baughman, Faberge, and Bianchi items. United States Air Post Flight Covers
1931 (21 June) Wiley Post & Harold Gatty Record Circumnavigation, cover with 2c canceled at Mineola, N.Y, Berlin cds (June 24) and Russian cachets, one dated June 29, signed by Post and Gatty (Their journey began on 23 June 1931 at Roosevelt Field in New York and followed a 15,000-mile course across Europe, Russia, and Siberia, due to the lack of suitable airfields nearer the equator. Post and Gatty crossed the Atlantic in a record time of 16 hours and 17 minutes and continued to Berlin, Moscow, and Khabarovsk, then crossed the Bering Sea, landing on the beach near Solomon, Alaska, then to Edmonton, Alberta, arriving finally back at Roosevelt Field after 8 days, 15 hours, and 51 minutes. The pair received a Ticker tape parade in New York City)

United States Air Post Flight Covers
1933 (1 June) Attempted Round the World Solo Flight by Jimmy Mattern, who attempted to circle the globe in record time. Leaving New York on 3rd June, he flew nonstop to Jomfruland, Norway. The next stop was Moscow, but he was lost near Anadyr, Siberia and no communication was received for two weeks. Jimmy was finally rescued by the famous Russian flyer Levanevsky and flew on his plane to Nome, Alaska. From there, Mattern secured another airplane and continued back to New York. He carried a few covers which have postmarks showing the history of the flight: New York (June 3), Jomfruland (June 4), Moscow (June 5), Khabarovsk (June 12), Krasnoyarsk (June 9), Amadyr (July 5), Edmonton (July 27), and on reverse Juneau (July 25) and Fairbanks (July 23), franked on both sides, with minor toning and cover wear and tear, signed Jimmy Mattern
