RUSSIA Russia Used in Asia
1888 (20 July) money letter sent from Temir-Khan-Shura in Dagestan to the Imperial Russian Consul General in Cairo, with Temir-Khan-Shura departure cds, sent via Odessa (28.7 and 29.7), and Volochisk (31.7). The letter contained 61 rubles to be transmitted to a resident of Dagestan who was then in Cairo. Postage was 59k (3x7k for weight, 31k for the 1/2% insurance fee rounded up, and 7k for registration). Routed via Austria, the required route for money letters addressed to Egypt.
