RUSSIA
1898 (16 Oct) 3k postal card uprated with 1k orange, sent from Blagoveshchensk to Sydney, Australia. Postmarked in Stretensk (16.10.98), via Moscow (9.11), Singapore (19.12) and Hong Kong, with Sydney arrival (18.1.99). This card was posted on board an Amur River steamship at Blagoveshchensk and postmarked on arrival in Stretensk. The message reads, "Am now out in Siberia 1100 miles from Vladivostok, 500 miles by rail and 600 by steamer on the Amoor River. It is getting very cold here now and everyone is preparing for the long winter. Met an English MP here today. He has come across from St. Petersburg. Am leaving here in a day or two and shall then be on my way back to Sydney, and I expect to get back around Christmas. I suppose it will take you six weeks to get this. Am going back to Japan first for my wife."
