Welcome to our September 15-16, 2020 Auction which will be held simultaneously via CherrystoneLIVE and Stamp Auction Network (SAN). This sale contains 1,353 lots of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World, with United States and European countries, including Austria, France and Colonies, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia, Spain, and others. Great Britain and British Commonwealth are well represented, covering all Reigns with many high values and sets from Aden to Zanzibar. Also featured is a collection of Imperial China, with Dowagers and extensive Red Revenues which include small 4c and inverted 2c and $5 overprints. This section is followed by solid selection from Republic of China (Taiwan) and PRC souvenir sheets. From Egypt (Kingdom), there is a fine showing of used and unused sets and postal history. This auction concludes with a strong selection of 250 large lots and collections ranging from single country albums to specialized collections (Postal History of Louisiana, British Commonwealth) and multi-carton worldwide properties and large cover lots.

1914 (22 Jan) Marc Pourpe flight, picture postcard (Omdurman Market) franked with 4m (defective) and tied by Heliopolis cds, addressed to England, message "Greetings by First Flight Aerial Post From the Sudan", with violet "Poste Aerienne Caire-Khartoum/L.N.A. Marc Pourpe 1913-14" cachet, fine and rare card, ex-Garrett (AAMC 4a) (Marc Pourpe took part in an early "Aviation Week" held at in 1914, in Heliopolis, near Cairo from January 2 through 12, 1914. While there he made the first airmail flight in Egypt, flying the 1,250 miles from Cairo to Khartoum from January 4 to the 12th, with stops in Luxor, Wadi Halfa and Abu Hamed)

EGYPT Flight Covers
1937 Imperial Airways, crash cover addressed to Egyptian Consulate Paris with Cairo 28 SE 37 cds, backside with pair of "POSTES ET TELEGRAPHES" labels and five line delay cachet applied by the French Post Office, fine (on 1 October 1937, Imperial Airways Short Empire G-ADVC Courtier crashed on landing in Phaleron Bay, Greece due to poor visibility, killing two of 15 on board. It was carrying mail from India, Iraq and Egypt. Most of it was salvaged and turned over to the Greek Post Office for further processing)
