Our July 7-8, 2020 auction will be held on CherrystoneLIVE. The sale contains 940 lots of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World, with extensive United States, European countries, including Austria, France and Colonies, German Area, Hungary, Italy and Colonies, Switzerland and other areas. Great Britain and British Commonwealth feature many high values and sets covering all reigns. This sale concludes with a good selection of large lots and collections, which range from single country albums to specialized collections and multi-carton worldwide stocks and cover lots. Please note our usual catalogues have not been printed for this sale, due to the current unreliability of the postal service (we hope to resume printing catalogues for the future auctions)

 | Lot #8621 HUNGARY 1923 5,000k dark green and pale blue, Madonna and Child, center inverted, very well centered and fresh, lifted for inspection and hinged on small piece (with Budapest 85 number) clear January 22, 1925 postmark, minor wrinkles at right and bottom markings, v.f. One sheet of 100 with inverted center was found in a tobacco store, used by an insurance agency in Budapest in January 1925. According to legend, about 80 pieces were sold before the error was discovered, many postally used at Post Office 85, with remainder turned over to the National Postal Museum. A rarity from Hungary, One of the premier Inverted Centers of 20th century Europe, with at least 38 tied up in museums, many with quality problems (especially among the used examples), leaving very few opportunities for a collector to obtain one of these beautiful rarities in sound condition (Mi.379I, €15,000) O Catalog #386a Catalog Value $12,000 | Price Realized $8,000.00 |
