Great Britain and British Commonwealth feature many high values and sets covering all reigns. This sale concludes with a good selection of large lots and collections, which range from single country albums to specialized collections and multi-carton worldwide stocks and cover lots. Please note our usual catalogues have not been printed for this sale, due to the current unreliability of the postal service (we hope to resume printing catalogues for the future auctions)

FRANCE
1849 1fr dull orange red (Vermillon) on yellowish paper, unused without gum, full to mostly large margins on all four sides, gorgeous color and exceptionally bright shade, v.f. example of the rarest stamp of the First Issue of France ( the 1849 1 Franc stamp comes in two basic shades, Vermilion (Scott No. 8) and Carmine (Scott No. 9), with each having several sub-shades. This Dull Orange Red shade is from the Vermilion group, which is far rarer than the Carmine. In fact, this is one of the key rarities for someone trying to collect France in unused condition). A beautiful stamp, signed Roger Calves, also with 2010 Calves et Jacquart certificate (Maury 7, €72,500)
