Our May 12, 2020 sale was prepared in anticipation of London 2020 World Stamp Exhibition. While the show has been rescheduled, this auction will take place as scheduled. There is an important collection of Great Britain and British Commonwealth, with many individual Colonies offered intact. In addition, there are hundreds of better individual lots of Inverted Centers of the World, French Colonies Postal History selection from the Lorenz correspondence to Trieste, excellent range of European countries, with Italy and Colonies, especially Fezzan, Poland, Russia, as well as rarities from Japan, Korea and more. There are many attractive and substantial Large Lots and Collections, often fully scanned.

1914-22 "Affects of the Civil War on the Mails of Ireland" collection of 27+ different items, written-up exhibition style on pages, with political satire, registered parcel post label with handwritten note "Cash of Arms came today April 7, 1916" (The Easter Rebellion started on April 16, 1916 in Dublin), Irish Republican Army Local Post cancel, undated and unsigned 1918 letter of protest against DeValera, card with handstamp "Republican Censor Spies & Informers Beware", censored cover from Canada to Dundrum, "Raided Mail Correspce", salvaged mail, cover addressed to New York, with "Salved From Fire GPO Dublin" handstamp; cover to prisoner with "Passed by I.R.A. Prison Censor" handstamped, "Recovered from Raided Mail" covers, cover addressed to General D.A. BRITISH COMMONWEALTH IRELAND
1922 (11 July) cover from Corcaigh to Cork, franked with left diagonal half of 4p gray green, with 5-line Dollard overprint, tied by framed "Lean Irish Taiilteann Games August" slogan supported by adjoining departure cds at left, sender's notation in magenta ink: "no 1/2d, 1d, 1 1/2d or 2d stamps available Cork GPO July 11 22", charged "4d" on arrival. The Post Office with no policy in place for bisects noted "Mutilated Stamp" and raised the mandated double the deficiency with the British 4p Postage Due at bottom, filing fold away from the stamps, with 1997 MacDonnell Whyte certificate. A rarity from Ireland, one of only four known bisects, ex-T.E.Field and Pedneault collections

Cork, some overall toning and filing fold away from the stamp. An unusual and unchallenged way to pay the normal 2 pence local rate.
