1862 3c rose, used on cover addressed to Prof. T.S.C. Lowe, Chief Aeronaut, with framed "Advertised" and Philadelphia Aug 7 1862 postmark, forwarded to Loretto Springs, due markings "Forw 3, adv. 1, due 4cts", fine (Professor T. S. C. Lowe, was an American Civil War aeronaut, scientist and inventor, father of military aerial reconnaissance in the United States. In July 1861 Lowe was appointed Chief Aeronaut of the Union Army Balloon Corps by President Abraham Lincoln)
