Lot #4342

1793 (18 Jan) letter (four-page folio) headed "Aujourd'hui dix huit de Janvier, Mille sept cent quatre vingt treize, l'an 2 de la Republique Francaise a huit heures, administration du 2 Battalion Corse au Garrison de Bonifacio", signed twice by Buonaparte on pages two and three (At that time, Napoleon was a fervent Corsican nationalist and spent the early years of the Revolution in Corsica, fighting in a complex three-way struggle among royalists, revolutionaries, and Corsican nationalists. He was a supporter of the republican Jacobin movement, organizing clubs in Corsica and was given command over a battalion of volunteers. Buonaparte and his family fled to the French mainland in June 1793 because of the split with Paoli, the Corsican leader). A rare and early example of Napoleon Buonaparte's full signatures on a document from Bonifacio, Corsica
