GERMAN COLONIES Caroline Islands Postal Stationery
1914 unused transmission form "Model T", with red "Via Jap." overprint. This was for the newly opened German-Netherlands telegraph office on Yap, which was connected world-wide over Dutch Colonial possessions in South Asia. Its role was to link the German Pacific Colonies into the main submarine telegraph networks. The cable ran from Menado, Dutch East Indies to Yap and Guam. At Yap a spur was run into Shanghai. At Menado links to the Eastern Extension cables were available and at Guam cables owned by the Commercial Pacific Cable Company provided connections to the USA and Philippines
