1797 Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), military general and the first emperor of France who is considered one of the world's greatest military leaders. Napoleon revolutionized military organization and training, sponsored the Napoleonic Code, reorganized education and established the long-lived Concordat with the papacy. ALS, four-page document with beautiful engraving headed "Bonaparte, General en Chef de L'Armee de Italie", dated Milan, 18 July, 1797, addressed to "Au General de Division Clarke", boldly signed "BONAPARTE" (son of a former French army officer, Henry-Jacques-Guillaume Clarke followed his father's footsteps by joining the military. In November of 1796 Clarke was sent to the Army of Italy to spy discreetly on General Bonaparte for the Directory, but after spending time with Bonaparte, Clarke became entirely devoted to him)

ALS (185x225mm), date-lined St. Cloud, 13 September, 1808 to his stepson Prince Eugene Napoleon (Eugene Rose de Beauharnais, Duke of Lichtenberg was the first child and only son of Alexandre de Beauharnais and Josephine Tauscher de la Piggeries, first wife of Napoleon), addressed "Mon Fils", interesting text in which Napoleon discusses the affairs of State, Dalmatia and potential meeting with the Tsar of Russia ("Entrevue avec L'Empereur de Russie") and will write upon his return. Endorsed at bottom "Votre Affectionee Frere" and boldly signed "NAPOLEON". A rare Napoleonic letter with historic significance
