Lot #273
COLOMBIA Air Post
1919 2c carmine rose, a magnificent assembly comprising the ten positions, each as single franking on cover from Barranquilla to Puerto Colombia on the date of the flight on 18 June 1919, including the highly desirable position 5 featuring "1" numerals with serifs (only 12 covers recorded). Two hundred examples of this denomination were overprinted at Barranquilla by using a press which could not overprint more than 10 stamps at a time; consequently, each horizontal strip of 10 in the sheet was cut and separately overprinted, with each showing the ten different positions. An extraordinary opportunity to obtain this rare and most difficult group being complete. Several items are signed by renowned experts such as Rendon and Bloch (catalogued as used, off cover)
