FRENCH COLONIES Senegal Flight Covers
1923 (10 May) survey flight of Latecoere planes cover to Casablanca, with Mayor of Dakar seal imprint, and arrival pmk (22 May) on back. In 1923, "Flight" magazine reported: "Projected Transatlantic Air Line. Three airplanes belonging to the Lignes Aeriennes Latecoeres left Casablanca for Dakar, a distance of 1,600 miles, at dawn on May 3. They reached Agadir during the day, and were due at Dakar the following night. This flight is undertaken with a view to the ultimate opening of a regular mail service between France and South America." An important addition to a South Atlantic airmail exhibit - this flight was the first step in building the South Atlantic service (Muller 1)
