1861 (22 July) small cover (slightly reduced at top) from Savannah, Ga, with oval "Paid 10", addressed to Alexander H. Stephens, Vice President in Richmond, Va, endorsed on reverse "Sarah A. Lawton, Savannah, Ga, July 22, 1861 - writes in relation of Confederate States flag." (Sarah was the great granddaughter of Sarah Porter Hillhouse (1763-1831), the first woman editor and printer in Georgia. Her brother, Edward Porter Alexander (1835-1910), was a distinguished Confederate General of Artillery) ?

CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA Regular Issues
1866 (29 Jan) small cover from London, franked with 1sh green, addressed to Commodore Samuel Barron, care of L.D. Crenshaw, Richmond, Va, fine cover, with "21 Cents" and arrival pmks. In 1862, Samuel Barron was sent to Great Britain to take command of the two ships (CSS North Carolina and CSS Mississippi), that were being built for the Confederacy. After the ships were seized by British authorities the following year, Barron traveled to France, remaining in Paris as "Flag Officer" commanding Confederate States Naval Forces in Europe
