 | Lot #679 ITALIAN STATES Roman States 1865 (4 Oct) outer folded letter from Rome, addressed via England to Monsignor John Bede Polding (the first Roman Catholic Archbishop of Sydney, Australia. Apart from the many churches he founded, Polding began the construction of the second St Mary's Cathedral and also founded the Sisters of the Good Samaritan in Sydney), franked with 6 Baj Purple Gray (grigio perla) and 60 Baj ultramarine (defective plate), each with margins all around, especially the rare 50 Bajocchi, with beautifully even and actually huge margins for the issue, red 8 October Culoz transit cds, also additional 9 October (Marseilles) and Sydney 12 December 1865 arrival pmks on back, v.f., signed Dr. Giorgio Colla Asinelli, with his 2003 Certificate (the "50 Bajocchi is the most beautiful example I have ever examined").
