LARGE LOTS & COLLECTIONS FRANCE Catapult Flights
1928 (August) "Ile de France" covers, collection of 23 covers and cards, including Great Britain (forerunner) cover with "via Le Havre per SS Ile de France Catapult Mail" endorsement, another from London to USA, non-philatelic flight; balance includes French covers with "Premier Liaison Postale Aerienne Transatlantique Par Hydravion Lance Par Catapulte de L' Ile de France, Pilote: Lieutenant de Vaisseau L. Demougeot" cachets, covers with U.S. franking and cachets "Via S.S. Ile de France", others with similar endorsements, addressed to Punjab, India, another to Barranquilla, Colombia, some with Roessler cachets, few newspaper clippings and picture postcards, generally fine-v.f. (SS Ile de France was a French ocean liner built in Saint-Nazaire for Compagnie Generale Transatlantique. While not the fastest vessel in the world, it briefly pioneered the quickest mail-system between Europe and the United States.
