1879 (Sep 16) complete FL from San Jose to New York, with uncancelled 2r scarlet at right, double circle postmark alongside, most likely carried across Costa Rica to the port of Limon, where it caught the Royal Mail steamer to Colon, where it was transferred to the Aspinwall Line steamer for carriage to New York, as the blanket steamship rate had been lowered to five cents per one-half ounce effective July 1, 1875; it was then rated as "Due 5 Cents" and a pre-cancelled U.S. 5c postage due (filing fold) was applied, Duran y Nunez departure datestamp on back and 5 October, New York arrival pmks on front, fine first issue combination with U.S. postage due, ex-Lanman y Kemp correspondence
