R.S.F.S.R. Rostov-on-Don Hunger Relief Issue
1922 2,000r green (1), 6,000r (vertical pair) and 2,000r rose, vertical se-tenant, gutter/couche strip of four, apparently representing the 6th-9th rows of the plate, also vertical se-tenant/couche pair of 2,000r rose and 4,000r rose, from the 11th and 12th rows. The configuration of these stamps confirms that all four stamps were printed together (rows 1-2 12x4,000r rose; rows 3-5 9x2,000r rose; rows 6-7 14x6,000r green, rows 8-13 9x2,000r green). There are folds between the stamps which are all unused, without gum as issued. A sensational highlight of the Gorski collection, undoubtedly unique , ex-Shtern (realized $195,500), with 2008 Mandrovski certificate. (These stamps were printed in sheets of 133, comprised of 27x2,000r rose, 54x2,000r green, 24x4,000r rose and 28x6,000r green. Total of 740 such sheets were printed and placed on sale in Rostov, Novocherkassk, Nakhichevan, and a few other South Don towns.
