Lot #3099
R.S.F.S.R. First Definitives - August 10, 1921
1921 1r orange (horizontal pair), used in combination with block of four of 2r brown (10r rub. rate in effect only for five days from 10th to 15th August) on registered "Brothers P. and I. Shchapov" company cover, used in Moscow 13 August 1921 (Mr. Shchapov prepared a number of covers and sent them to members of his family, with same day arrival backstamp, v.f. The Shchapov covers, while philatelically inspired, did actually go through the mails and in many cases, are the only known examples of properly used RSFSR definitives on cover (despite of the large number printed and sold, few were actually used during the first week of its availability. The stamps were oversized and imperforate, hence there remained preference for the old Imperial Arms issues)
